When Intellms, a developer of ERP systems, LLM solutions, and enterprise web services, began the second stage of its AEO program, its site had 53 citations in AI answers and a link in answers to 15% of queries. The site is young and has almost no history in AI results.

In one month, from August 21 to September 24, citations grew to 112, and the share of queries with a link grew to 28.8%. More than half of that, 62 citations, came from engines that were not measured in August.

This case is about what is real in such growth and what the wider measurement added. We count both numbers.

Section 01

Where we started

The client wanted AI engines to name its site as a source when companies look for such a contractor. The second goal was a new lead channel beyond classic search: a person sees a link in an AI answer, goes to the site, and leaves a request.

By August 21, at the end of the first stage, the site had 53 citations, a link in answers to 15% of queries, and third place among the niche's domains.

The second stage had three constraints:

  • the site is young and has almost no history in AI results;
  • Google AI Overviews, Yandex AEO, and Gemini were not measured in the August run;
  • ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, and Grok did not cite the site at all.

Section 02

How we measured

We built a pool of 160 LLM queries, 40 for each funnel stage: Awareness, Consideration, Evaluation, and Decision. Each query was run through 9 engines in Semantica AI, which gives 1,440 answers per measurement. We compared two measurements, August 21 and September 24, on the same query pool, broken down by engine and by stage.

The case uses three metrics:

  • citation means an AI answer links to a page on intellms.ru;
  • coverage is the share of queries whose answers contain at least one such link;
  • answer share is the part of the 1,440 answers that contain citations of the site.

Section 03

What we did

We wrote narrow pages on intellms.ru for specific queries and released rewrites on external sites: VC.ru, RBC Companies, and Dzen. In September we put the emphasis on Decision topics: choosing a SaaS platform, GitLab, and corporate messengers. By September 24, AI engines cited 24 pages of the site. The six most cited are in the table.

Page Citations Queries Engines
ERP for large companies 6 5 Google AIO, Yandex AEO
LLM solution for business 6 4 Google AIO, Perplexity, Yandex
Internal LLM model 5 2 Google AIO, Perplexity, Yandex
GitLab and DevOps in enterprise development 5 4 Gemini, Perplexity
SaaS platforms in corporations 5 4 Google AIO, Perplexity, Yandex
ROI and efficiency of AI/LLM development 4 3 Google AIO, Perplexity, Yandex AEO

Each of the six pages answers a specific query, and each is cited by at least two engines.

Section 04

Result: 112 citations of the site

In one month citations grew from 53 to 112, and 62 of them came from engines that were not measured in August. Google AI Overviews reached Alice's level in its very first correct measurement.

Engine Aug 21 Sep 24 Query coverage, Sep 24
Alice (YandexGPT) 23 32 20%
Google AI Overviews not measured 32 20%
Yandex AEO not measured 25 15.6%
Perplexity 30 18 11.3%
Gemini not measured 5 3.1%
ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, Grok 0 0 0%
Total 53 112 28.8%

Alice went from 23 citations to 32, while Perplexity dropped from 30 to 18. Gemini produced its first hits. ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, and Grok remain the next front of work.

Section 05

An honest count: what part of the growth is real

Of the 112 citations, 62 came from Google AI Overviews, Yandex AEO, and Gemini, which were not in the August measurement. On the same two engines measured in August, Alice and Perplexity, citations went from 53 to 50. Alice gained 9, Perplexity lost 12.

So the growth from 53 to 112 should not be read as growth of presence on every platform. It is the first full measurement, and it showed that the site is already cited by engines that were new to the panel, with Google AI Overviews at Alice's level. On the older platforms the dynamics are mixed, and that is what we look at next.

Section 06

Funnel: Decision coverage doubled

The emphasis on Decision topics worked: coverage of the bottom stage grew from 7.5% to 15%. The top of the funnel grew too, while Evaluation dropped.

Stage Aug 21 Sep 24
Awareness 37.5% (15 of 40) 42.5% (17 of 40)
Consideration 30% (12 of 40) 40% (16 of 40)
Evaluation 27.5% (11 of 40) 17.5% (7 of 40)
Decision 7.5% (3 of 40) 15% (6 of 40)

The Evaluation dip from 27.5% to 17.5% should be closed by the October block of topics, because in September we deliberately bet on Decision.

Section 07

The client's publications in AI answers

Besides the domain itself, we track all of the client's publications, including rewrites on external sites. By September 24, 53 of 65 such links were found in AI answers.

Metric Aug 21 Sep 24
Tracked links 34 65
Links in AI answers no data 53 of 65 (82%)
Appearances in answers no data 210

Fresh publications sometimes enter answers on the same day they are added to the tracker. A VC.ru article about measuring the results of a mobile platform pilot got two mentions right away.

Section 08

Against competitors

Among the developers we track, Intellms leads. The site is linked in 7.8% of answers, against 3.4% for the closest competitor.

Company Answer share Site citations
Intellms 7.8% 112
Surf.ru 3.4% 49
Intervolga.ru 0.3% 5
Jetstyle.ru 0.1% 1
7 more competitors 0% 0

Of ten competitors, only Surf.ru has noticeable visibility. On Decision queries it almost caught up with Intellms: 13 citations against 14.

Section 09

Site traffic

Over nine months, intellms.ru traffic grew from zero to 240+ visits a month, in parallel with the publication program. From January to September 2026 the site received 1,126 visits. Of these, 503 were direct, 417 came from search engines, 167 from links on other sites, and the rest from other sources (Yandex Metrica data).

A caveat: by default Metrica does not separate AI traffic into its own source. Visits from ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Alice land in "link referrals" and "search engines" together with regular ones. We will calculate the share of the AI channel from the referrer for the next measurement.

Section 10

What comes next

  • October will bring 7 articles for the site and 2 rewrites. They will strengthen Evaluation (17.5%) while holding Decision (15%) and the top of the funnel.
  • The goal for the end of October: the first citations in ChatGPT and more than 5 in Gemini. For that we are increasing external publications with links to intellms.ru.
  • The next measurement runs at the end of October. The checkpoint: an answer share with a site link of 10% or more (7.8% now).

Section 11

What this means

  • Narrow pages for a specific query work. AI engines cite 24 pages of the site, and each of the six leaders is cited by at least two engines.
  • Measurement without blind spots shows the full picture. Google AI Overviews gave 32 citations in its first correct measurement, as many as Alice.
  • Publications on external sites widen reach. 53 of 65 tracker links produced 210 appearances in AI answers, while the domain itself has 112 citations.
  • Growth is uneven. Perplexity dropped, and ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, and Grok do not cite the site yet.

Section 12

FAQ

Q: How quickly do AI engines start citing a new site?

A: For Intellms the number of citations grew from 53 to 112 in a month, even though the site is young. Speed depends on the engine. Google AI Overviews, Alice, and Yandex AEO cite the site regularly, while ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, and Grok do not yet.

Q: Which pages do AI engines cite most often?

A: The most cited are narrow pages built for a specific query, for example "ERP for large companies" (6 citations). Each of the six most cited pages is cited by at least two engines.

Q: How were citations measured?

A: We collected 160 queries across four funnel stages and ran them through 9 engines in Semantica AI, which is 1,440 answers per measurement. We compared the measurements of August 21 and September 24 on the same query pool.

Q: Which funnel stages grew the most?

A: Decision coverage grew the most, from 7.5% to 15%. Consideration rose from 30% to 40%, and Awareness from 37.5% to 42.5%. Evaluation fell from 27.5% to 17.5%, and the October block of topics should strengthen it.

Q: How much of the growth came from the new engines in the measurement?

A: Of the 112 citations, 62 came from Google AI Overviews, Yandex AEO, and Gemini, which were not in the August measurement. On the same Alice and Perplexity, citations went from 53 to 50.

Q: Do ChatGPT, Claude, DeepSeek, and Grok cite the site?

A: Not yet. In both measurements these engines had 0 citations. The goal for the end of October is the first citations in ChatGPT. For that we are increasing external publications with links to intellms.ru.

Q: How does Intellms compare with competitors?

A: The Intellms site is linked in 7.8% of answers, against 3.4% for the closest competitor, Surf.ru. Of the ten tracked competitors, only Surf.ru has noticeable visibility.
